About me

I’m Ross Kempsell, Special Correspondent at Times Radio, the radio station of The Times and The Sunday Times newspapers based in London, United Kingdom. I write exclusive stories for The Times.

As Special Correspondent I cover stories and investigations in the broad field of public policy in the UK. I’m especially interested in home affairs, crime, policing and security.

Previously, as Political Editor of national radio stations talkSPORT, talkRADIO and Virgin Radio, I was the youngest broadcast Political Editor in the parliamentary ‘lobby’.

My on air work has won several awards: for my political reporting I was nominated to the Radio Academy’s ’30 Under 30′. In 2020 I won the coveted IRN Award for Best Interview.

I worked for a year as a policy adviser in the 10 Downing Street Policy Unit, giving me a very good insight into how the UK government works at the highest level, as well as the many issues and debates surrounding public policy in the UK today.

Prior to becoming a broadcast journalist I worked as a reporter in newspapers and online, including as the Chief Reporter of an international news and picture agency, where I regularly broke front page stories and investigations. I studied at Cambridge University.
